About GACRA

A Brief History of GACRA

The Association was founded in the year 1963 and currently has a membership of about 1100 Certified Registered Anesthetists (CRAs) from all the ten regions of Ghana.

Dispensary assistants were first chosen to be trained on the job to administer anaesthesia during the colonial era. This training short lived as it did not meet the required standard. CRAs were then chosen to replace the Dispensary assistants to continue with on-the-job training for a very short period to administer anaesthesia in Ghana.

Mission Statement

To secure the well-being of all Certified Registered Anaesthetists (CRAs) through healthy engagement with employers and Collaborate with other stake holders to play the leading role in making surgery safe through provision of safe anaesthesia services.

All qualified and registered CRAs other than a Doctor Anesthetist / Anesthesiologist shall be eligible members of this union.
