The job trained CRAs worked during the pre-second world war through the post second world war until 1960 when the Association was officially formed and named SOCIETY OF ANAESTHETISTS and registered in 1963. Mr Evans Adekpaonya was the first general secretary and acted as one man in galvanizing the needed support to sustain the Association. However, the Association remained dormant though it was in existence.

OFFICIAL TRAINING OF CRAs-KOMFO ANAOKYE TEACHING HOSPITAL, KUMASI.

On the ticket of Oversea Development Agency, in 1986 Dr. Odonuhoo was sent to Ghana and posted to Komfo-Anokye Teaching Hospital to train Medical Doctors. Upon realizing the urgent need for anaesthesia services he opted to train CRAs but met stiff opposition.

Dr. Odunohoo then sought official permission from the then government of the day and Flt. Jerry John Rawlings (then Head of state) gave the authorization for a fully flexed Anaesthesia Training school to be established in Komfo-Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Dr. Odunohoo started the first fourteen (14) students with Dr Richard Page and Anne Schmidt joined later. Six (6) months later, Dr. Odunohoo left leaving the two lecturers. Dr. Bonni came thereafter in 1988 and in 1989, Dr Gabriel Boakye joined the school. Other visiting lecturers were also engaged to teach in the school.

OTHER ANAESTHESIA TRAINING SCHOOLS:

Komfo-Anokye Teaching Hospital could not produce the required needed Anaesthetists and in 2003, 37 Military hospital under the Ministry of Defence opened the second training school. Not quite long, Ridge hospital under Ghana health service opened the third school in 2008. This third school also came as a result of shortage of Anaesthetists. The University of Development Studies and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology commenced training to award Bachelor of Science in Anesthesia in the 2011/2012 academic year.
